O Senor Santo Nino, * You are our king and our God. * We worship You. * You are our
strong Defender, * we turn to you.

You are the patron of Cebu, the Philippines * [and the world], we come to you; You have
made extraordinary wonders * through Your Miraculous Image * in these chosen islands, *
remember us. * Look down at this poor soul * that comes to you for help. * Lead us with Your
wisdom; * discipline us with Your truth; * console us with Your tenderness, * protect us with Your
Might.

We consecrate today * our thoughts of You, * only with You * shall they be occupied; *
our words, * only of You shall they speak; * our sufferings, that we may endure them * for Your
sake. * We beg You Senor Santo Nino, * illumine our understanding, * kindle our will, * cleanse

What is the story of Sto Nino?
Nino is the oldest Roman Catholic church established in the Philippines. It was built on the same spot where the image of the Sto. Nino de Cebu, a statue depicting the Child Jesus, was found in 1565 by Spanish explorers led by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. The image was found by a soldier.

Why do we celebrate Sto Nino?
For more than 30 years, the Sinulog Festival is a traditional celebration in Cebu City held every third Sunday of January to honor the Santo Niño (Child Jesus). Basically, the festival is done by a dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the Filipino people's pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.

Reject, if thou wilt, all my other prayers, provided thou hearest this one for a good death; or may a peaceful and holy death be the crowning answer to all the prayers I address to thee henceforth to the end of my days.

And When my last hour shall come, grant, O my good Mother, that I may worthily receive all the helps the Holy Church affords to the dying: And be thou pleased thyself o come then to my aid, to encourage, console and defend me from the assaults of Satan and that thy name, with that of JESUS, may be my last thought, and my last sigh, so that I may go to heaven to sing thy mercies. Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right.

May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.

We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence, a new world where fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice, nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.

But above all obtain for me the grace to love JESUS CHRIST, thy Divine Son, whom above all I am so much bound to love, as infinitely amiable in Himself, as having so much loved for me, and Whom thou so ardently desires to see loved by all.

This is the grace I seek for most, and above every other good.
